Ok, so there are only two days to go.

At the moment, the weather forecast is favourable – around 22C, light winds and no clouds.

Certainly a damn sight better than last Sunday – and I felt for the cyclists last year after the course was cut short by 20 miles because of the horrendous weather conditions.

At the moment, it all looks fine.

But, what am I most looking forward to?

I’ll tell you – cycling on roads with no cars.

Car drivers seem to be blind to people on two wheels. Even this week in my final cycle – a 20-mile round trip to the office – I spent half my time dodging in and out of lines of stationary traffic because drivers believe the cycle lane does not apply to them.

GET OUT OF IT.

Touch wood, I’ve only come off the bike once since the turn of the year, but it would have been a lot more if I had not taken evasive action when over-taking cars cut me up and almost forced me into the verge.

Human flesh and bones on a delicate bike are no match for an HGV lorry driven by someone who does not know how long their trailer is.

To cycle on car free roads will be a whole new experience, and one I am very much looking forward to.

Additionally, and to be honest, I am looking forward to Sunday evening when the deed is done.

Once I’ve got my bike home, had a soak in the bath and the obligatory cup of tea, my wife and I are hitting the pub and the curry house, and I intend to drink and eat until I can no longer function.

And yes, I have booked Monday off of work.

Good luck to everyone taking part on Sunday, raise lots of money and, moreover, enjoy the moment.

I am cycling for Children with Cancer. To sponsor me go to justgiving.com/Tim-Ashton2.
