Police are appealing to the public to help identify more people suspected of taking part in riots in Brixton.

Swarms of looters trashed shops and small businesses along Effra Road, stealing thousands of pounds worth of goods.

As of December 5, more than 3000 people had been arrested across London in connection with the unrest, with more than 2000 of those being charged or cautioned.

Superintendent Andy Howe said police investigations into the mass disorder were “ongoing”.

He said: “Operation Withern has had considerable success in identifying and convicting persons involved in the disorder that blighted many parts of London in August.

“There are still many ongoing enquiries including hours of CCTV to be viewed to identify further suspects and these people will have an uncomfortable time awaiting the inevitable knock on the door.”
