Last night’s game at Charlton was my first for ten days and wow - what a turnaround.

Gone was the attack shy side I last saw at Wolves, as were the defensive frailties that cost us so dearly at Molineux and at Reading, and instead I saw a team brewing with confidence, playing attractive football and making a heap of chances.

I was quite simply amazed, especially given the reports I heard of the Plymouth game.

Why has this happened? Well I think the reasons are fourfold.

Firstly, Ben Watson seems to be improving his deadballs every game. Gone are the corners to the first man and instead we look like scoring every time.

Secondly, Paul Ifill is like a new player. Against Hereford in the cup earlier in the season he was dreadful and I thought that was it for him at Palace, but he is playing with a smile now and a new found confidence - the only thing lacking is a bit of luck infront of goal.

Thirdly, the Paddy McCarthy Jose Fonte partnership looks set to be a good one. McCarthy is the brawn winning all the headers, while Fonte is the class and the calm, reading the game superbly.

Fourth, and possibly most importantly, the real Victor Moses is back. I don’t know if he was a bit too cocky after his summer exploits with England or if he was just too tired, but we all know his form at the start of the season was poor, but last night he terrorised Charlton. He constantly wanted the ball and was not afraid to run or shoot.

The international break is probably coming at the wrong time for Palace but if they continue this form they could be a match for anybody.
