A 20-year-old man has died after a stabbing in New Addington.

Police were called just after 6pm yesterday (September 12) to reports of people fighting in North Walk.

Emergency services attended and two men were found with stab wounds.

One of the men, aged 20, died at the scene.

Police are in the process of informing his next of kin.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

The second man, aged in his late teens, was taken to hospital.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

An investigation is under way and enquiries are ongoing.

Police have confirmed they are waiting for information on a possible arrest.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 18:01hrs on Tuesday, 12 September to reports of people fighting in North Walk, New Addington.

“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. Two men were found with stab wounds.

“One of the men, aged 20, died at the scene. We are in the process of informing his next of kin.

“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

“The second man, aged in his late teens, was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“An investigation is under way and enquiries are ongoing.

“Any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 6879/12Sep.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: "We were called on Tuesday 12 September at 6.05pm to an incident in New Addington.

“We sent two ambulance crews, three medics in response cars, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.

“Sadly, despite our efforts, a man died at the scene while a second man was taken to a London major trauma centre.”

Croydon Mayor Jason Perry said in a statement: "Tonight, just after 6pm, police were called to North Walk in New Addington to reports of people fighting.

"Two men were found with stab injuries, one of whom sadly died at the scene. The other has been taken to hospital.

"I know that residents across New Addington and Croydon as a whole will be deeply saddened and distressed to hear about tonight’s incident.

"My thoughts are with the families of the victims and all those affected. I would also like to thank the local emergency services who responded so quickly and professionally to this serious incident.

"A police investigation is ongoing and I would urge any witnesses to call 101 quoting the reference CAD/6879/12SEP."
