A fresh appeal has been launched by police investigating the "brutal" murder of Scott Wilkinson after his body was discovered near an island in Walton.

The 48-year-old’s body was found in the river, just a short distance from where he had been fishing at Donkey Island near Waterside Drive on July 28.

A post-mortem examination concluded he had died from head trauma.

Surrey Police officers are urging anyone who was on the island in the seven days leading up to July 28 to call and provide details of their trip to aid the investigation.

DCI Fiona Macpherson from Surrey and Sussex major crime team said: “The Island where we believe Scott was brutally murdered is located near Sunbury Lock opposite the Weir pub and is known locally as ‘Donkey Island’.

“I would like to hear from anybody who was on that island between Thursday 21 July 2016 and Thursday 28 July 2016.

“Alternatively if you have any information or witnessed anything suspicious please contact us as a matter of urgency.”

Officers are continuing extensive searches on the island and where his body was found.

Six people have been arrested so far in the investigation, including a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, a 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old man all arrested on suspicion of murder. They have been re-bailed until November 9.

A 36-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice have been re-bailed until November 17.

Anyone who was on the island or has any information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting Operation Briar.
