The future mayor of Merton, Councillor Brenda Fraser is inviting all residents who shared their 90th birthday with the Queen to join her for afternoon tea in June.

Anyone who is 90, or has a relative who turned 90 on April 21 and lives in the borough, could be joining the mayor for the special event at the mayor's parlour at the council offices in Morden.

Cllr Fraser, who will take over from current mayor Cllr David Chung in May, said: “It has been wonderful to see communities up and down the UK celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday and recognising her long and dedicated contribution to public life.

"Inviting residents, who share the Queen’s birthday, to the mayor’s parlour for tea is my way of honouring the generation of people who did so much for their country when they were younger and who, in many cases, continue to do so much in their local communities.”
