Police are searching for a woman who may have had her drink spiked in a Wimbledon bar, after a man was arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance.

A witness saw a man put an unknown substance in the woman’s drink when she went out for a cigarette at Edward's, in Hartfield Road, Wimbledon, police said today.

The witness informed the woman about what he had seen, and she went back to the table and spoke briefly to the man before leaving.

Police went to the bar at 8.15pm on Wednesday, August 5, to reports that a witness had noticed a man putting an unknown substance in a woman’s drink.

A small bottle was recovered near to where the woman had been sitting. It is currently being analysed.

A 30-year-old man from Surrey who was arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance has been bailed until October.

The man and the woman, who had been sharing a table, are believed to have arrived at the venue together.

Detective Sergeant Ben Cockburn from Wimbledon CID said: "We are keen to speak to the woman who was sharing the table with the man.

"We’d like her to come forward and help us with our ongoing investigation."

The woman is described as in her late twenties with short dark hair.
