Identifying a fly-tipper left a Good Samaritan £50 up.

An informant was so tired of seeing a woodland used as a dumping ground, that the do-gooder decided to do something about it.

It was simply the last straw when a man was seen emptying bags of green waste onto Claygate Common in March.

After providing evidence to Elmbridge Council’s enforcement team, the fly-tipper was issued a formal caution and ordered to contribute to the cost of clearing up.

Councillor Glen Dearlove, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “This is a great example of a local resident taking action to help protect a local beauty spot.

“We are really pleased to reward our resident as the information provided was essential in identifying the offender.

“It sends a strong message to the antisocial minority that the whole community is working together to catch them.”
