Schools in the Esher and Walton constituency received praise from their MP.

In a report sent to Dominic Raab, 89 per cent of schools in the area were judged good or outstanding by Ofsted inspectors. The national figure of schools obtaining the same judgement was, as of May 31, at 83 per cent.

Mr Raab said: “This shows important progress in raising the standards of attainment in our schools.

“That is crucial for giving youngsters the start in life that they need and making sure that our economy has the right skills to thrive.

“I pay tribute to all of the teachers for the progress that is being made, and we should continue to strive for the highest standards.”

Out of the 28 schools inspected by the end of May this year, 16 primary schools were found to be good, with five rated outstanding and two requiring improvement.

Your Local Guardian:

From the four secondary schools inspected, one was outstanding, two were good and only one – Rydens Enterprise School and Sixth Form College – was found to require improvement.

Walton Oak Primary School was previously found to be rated good, but wants to do better.

Headteacher Mandy Watts described their efforts as an “exciting journey”.

Mr Raab has been invited to shadow an Ofsted inspector in one of the schools in his constituency in order to fully appreciate what it entails.
