A West Molesey dad who fought cancer this year has joined forces with Euro gold medallist Jo Pavey to encourage people to take part in a run that includes an ice cave.

Darren Strode, 42, had Burkitt’s lymphoma diagnosed in April and underwent four rounds of chemotherapy, ending in September.

The father of Jasmine, five, Holly, three, and Daisy, one, has signed up to take part in London Winter Run on February 1, 2015, with his wife Sarah.

Mr Strode, a sales manager, said: "I want to help raise awareness and money so that further treatments can be developed for all types of cancer and more people get the result I did.

"I’m really looking forward to the fun of the event, raising money for lifesaving research and running it with the person who supported me the most, my wife Sarah."

The Cancer Research UK London Winter Run, will see 15,000 participants running 10k through the streets of London and will involve a 500m long ice cave.

Mr Strode has teamed up with European 10,000m Champion, Jo Pavey, 41, to help launch the run and encourage people to sign up.

She said: "The run is especially important to me as it’s supporting such a great cause in Cancer Research UK."
