Police in Croydon have arrested a suspected burglar after unconvering a haul of stolen jewellery during a series of raids.

Officers seized the jewellery, which included several items thought to be high-value Asian gold, after descending on three addresses in Croydon and one in Warlingham, Surrey.

They also found a mobile phone, suspicious documents and an iPad thought to have been snatched during a burglary in South London.

A 25 year-old man was arrested on Tuesday November 20 on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods. He was bailed until January 4.

Acting inspector Stuart Wood said: "This is part of our total war on crime and targeting those we believe are linked with the burglary and theft of Asian gold from the Croydon and surrounding area.

"We’re also looking to target those involved in the subsequent handling and trade of stolen goods like these.

"As we’ve seen, thieves are targeting Asian gold in particular and we would urge communities in Croydon to take some simple but effective steps to make their homes and possessions safer and more secure."

He advised homeowners to use timed lights when away from their house and to photograph their valuables to help safeguard their property.
